Why the Bigmouth website process is different

Why the Bigmouth website process is different

April 2026

On their face, websites are Bigmouth’s most straightforward offering: A beautifully designed, easily navigable space for connecting with your audiences.

Every organization needs a website. It’s your calling card, your digital brochure and the first place most audiences experience your brand. Most organizations already HAVE a website. So, why do they engage an agency for web work?

Bigmouth’s website clients come to us with…
Messaging that no longer reflects their people or purpose—or never did.
Outdated design, imagery or user experience; the site looks and feels clunky or inaccessible.
A desire to offer new functionality or information that reflects the organization’s offerings or growth.
A special project or campaign that requires its own landing page or mini-site.

At Bigmouth, we believe the magic of websites lies in the journey.

Our web clients always have ideas about where they want to end up—they’re just not sure how to get started. At Bigmouth, we believe the magic of websites lies in the journey. Here’s how that journey—our Website Brand Blueprint Process—fuels the Bigmouth difference.
Phase 0.5

Kickoff & Work Start

Our first group session is one of the most important meetings of the entire website process. It ensures:

Everyone aligns on the overall timeline and how we’ll work together
Bigmouth understands our client’s needs, priorities and expected outputs
Our clients understand the website process and our collaboration expectations

We assign our clients some homework, including a checklist of existing materials and a (fun!) worksheet about their organization and audience.

Phase 1

Audit & Discover

Bigmouth’s deep dive into your organization, industry and audiences naturally starts with your current website. Our team peeps on every client’s site before signing a contract to make sure we’re a good fit for one another. We come in with fresh eyes once our working relationship is official, asking ourselves:

How do your audiences currently experience your brand online? Does your current site set the tone for your services, your values and your people?
Can we easily find the information we need? How can we make that information more readily available?
What’s working from an outsider’s perspective? What’s missing?

For mini-sites or special projects: How should a client’s existing brand be reflected in this scaled-down format? Should the tone of voice, color palette, font, logo or other expressions depart from the primary brand?

Our analysis also includes existing metrics, a competitive review and reading through that (fun!) homework. We meet with team members at every level to understand the organization from all angles.
Deliverables at this stage can include:
User journey maps that reflect each target audience
A refined sitemap and recommended content structure

A discovery presentation summarizing insights and clear recommendations for both site architecture and content strategy.

The Bigmouth Difference

Not every website project includes a full organization-wide rebrand of brand voice and tone, key messaging, fonts, color palette and brand assets. But every Bigmouth website project starts with brand alignment, even if we’re not doing a full revamp. A client’s existing site may not accurately reflect their current brand, so taking the extra step to ensure everyone’s on the same page saves time and ensures a better working experience.

Chicago Sports and Entertainment Partners

Chicago Sports and Entertainment Partners (CSEP) was founded in 2009 with the mission of offering the very best in sports and entertainment marketing; athlete and speaker management; and consulting. The agency helps athletes in all stages of life — including many Olympians and Paralympians — provide the world with inspiration, motivation and unity.

CSEP needed to level up its website to reflect the calibre of its athletes and experienced team. Bigmouth worked within the agency’s existing verbal identity to elevate CSEP’s client stories and bring a sense of power and excitement to the site. Meanwhile, an updated design and user experience relied on bold images and colorful shapes that implied motion and action.

The resulting site supports, engages and empowers current and potential CSEP clients as valued partners in driving a positive impact on their business and strategic goals.

Phase 2

Concept & Define

Using insights from the discovery phase, we craft wireframes and high-fidelity designs that prioritize clarity, warmth and inclusivity. Our design system will be mobile-first, accessible and visually reflective of an organization’s values. The experience feels welcoming, intuitive and trustworthy, no matter the user’s journey.

Deliverables at this stage can include:
Wireframes and final designs for core page templates
A reusable web design system, including typography, buttons and components
Mobile-first and WCAG 2.2 AA compliant design files
The Bigmouth Difference
Many creative agencies build bare-bones website wireframes: a spare collection of boxes that indicate copy and images. But clients often have a tough time imagining how blank boxes translate to a full website. Instead, Bigmouth takes our wireframes a few steps further, including headline sizes, positions and fonts; breakout boxes; and call-to-action buttons that give a clear picture of what’s to come.

The Ortus Foundation

The Ortus Foundation was established in 2022 to create networks of change for mental health support and suicide prevention among youth and young adults. The young foundation sought a marketing partner to invigorate the brand, grow awareness and create meaningful connections both on- and offline.

The updated ortusfoundation.org website was an opportunity to increase brand awareness, introduce the organization to people and solidify relationships with existing partners.

While Ortus’ mission, vision and goals were specific and focused, its new website needed to appeal to a wide range of audiences: Collaborators, investors and those seeking funding or information. Bigmouth worked closely with Ortus on a redesigned site that better reflected the foundation’s identity, created action-oriented user journeys and supported the team in easy content and image updates.

Phase 3

Produce & Implement

Now, Bigmouth puts our strategy and creativity decisions into action! Our website developer turns approved copy and design into a fully optimized website. Along the way, our creative team fine-tunes any last-minute items. And together, we review each page with a fine-toothed comb.
Deliverables at this stage can include:
A CMS configured with reusable content blocks (we recommend WordPress!)
Fully responsive and accessible design
Back-end forms for events and other relevant content
GA4 analytics and form tracking
SSL, backups and baseline security protocols
The Bigmouth Difference
Bigmouth’s website process is highly collaborative — including our development. Clients have very specific needs when it comes to both front-end site functionality and back-end updates. Working directly with clients to educate them on their new site ensures those needs are met. The team also gains the confidence to maintain the site in the long term. Our development team will happily hop on the phone with clients to work through functionality and site training needs. The work we accomplish on those calls makes up for weeks of back-and-forth emails that can lack a personalized touch.

HIV and the Journey Toward Zero

Four decades into the HIV epidemic, advocates and medical experts can finally envision the end of new HIV infections. HIV and the Journey Toward Zero, a documentary film series from CDPH and Tessa Films, explores the perspective of Chicagoans on the frontline.

Bigmouth was tasked with building out a full mini-brand and website — journeytowardzero.com — for the documentary series to both promote the films with the JTZ audience and ensure they live on as an educational tool.

The creators envisioned HIV and the Journey Toward Zero as a tool for sparking conversation while educating, invigorating and uniting audiences from all walks of life. Bigmouth expected viewers to have a wide range of education and experience surrounding the epidemic, and wanted the site to both serve as an accessible resource for all and evolve with each new film.

The site’s creative experience evolved with the release of each new film, reflecting the evolving story through changes in color, photography and overall tone.

Phase 4

Manage & Maintain

Your brand-new site is live — now what?

Bigmouth doesn’t just cut you loose. We provide every client with hands-on back-end training to manage content. We also understand that not everyone has the skills or capacity to monitor analytics, feel confident in big updates or refine campaigns.

Bigmouth crafts bespoke service level agreements that scale from basic hosting and troubleshooting, all the way up to content strategy and frequent site updates. So we can find effective ways to help — no matter your budget.
